Should You Use Weight Loss Drugs

Our global weight problem is now affecting children of pre-school age and is of concern to health organizations everywhere as the health problems that occur in overweight people are also increasing. In order to lose those excess pounds, many people resort to quite extreme courses of action with surgery quite a common practice but other people realize that a healthy diet with regular exercise is the best method to employ. Of course if you are really in a hurry then you can always use a weight loss drug to speed the process up.

These drugs work in a variety of ways but mainly they try to fool the brain into thinking the stomach is full and increase the person's metabolism. Unfortunately for the manufacturers, it was found that incidents of heart valve disease were connected to the use of the weight control pills which were rapidly removed from the shelves. Of course the manufacturers did not give up that easily and new drugs were created, which are still being prescribed even though the Federal Drug Administration has not yet approved them.

The use of drugs that help weight reduction has become so commonplace that it is almost certain that you know of someone who has tried them. Let's be honest, it is human nature to like things that provide near instant results, without having to put in the effort. Many millions of dollars are spent each year in The United States alone whilst the drug manufacturers spend huge sums on further research into weight loss drugs.

Despite the advances in this type of weight control pills, there are still problems, some of which people are willing to put up with including sickness and diarrhea. Surprisingly more dangerous side effects exist including stroke, heart attack, renal failure to name only a few, so these drugs are still far from safe to use.

The best course of action before taking any type of pill is to check with your doctor as there are many factors that could contribute to any problems you experience but it does not stop even when you cease taking the pills. Problems like depression, nausea, bad mood swings, nightmares, insomnia for example have all been reported when a person has stopped taking the weight control pills.

Generally from the reports it would seem that the effectiveness of weight loss drugs is improved if they are combined with a regular exercise program and a low calorie diet. The type of balanced food groups would be oats, cereals, rice, potatoes with fruit and vegetables as the best source of minerals, fiber and vitamins.
