Atkins Snack Bars

If you are trying to stick to the Atkins diet, you probably have run across the specified snack foods, particularly the Atkins bars. These bars are of course low in carbohydrates and high in protein, exactly in line with what the Atkins diet calls for. Atkins bars are very similar to their energy bar predecessors like Power Bars, and are very convenient for those trying to follow the diet guidelines while leading a busy lifestyle.

Atkins bars come in two varieties including Advantage bars and Morning Start bars. Quite honestly, I don’t think there is any difference in the content and vitamins offered in them, but they do offer different flavors. Advantage Atkins bars come in flavors like peanut butter granola, chocolate mocha, caramel fudge brownie and coconut brownie. Morning Start Atkins bars come in more morning friendly flavors such as cranberry almond, mixed berry and oatmeal raisin. I personally have a sweet tooth, so the Advantage bars would suit me fine any time of day, but I can certainly see where some customers like the option of a typical morning flavored item. It doesn’t really matter because they all end up tasting like a mixture of cardboard and Play-Doh, but at least they tried.

These bars, like any other high protein bar, can be eaten either as a meal replacement or as a high calorie snack. Be careful if you are using these as snacks, as they are quite high in calories and may do a disservice to you if you are also trying to cut back on calories as well as ramping up your protein intake. The Atkins bars are pretty comparable to a meal calorie wise, so if you are solely using as a meal replacement you should be in pretty good shape.

You can pick up just one or two Atkins bars at just about any larger grocery store, drug store or health food store to try out. If you try them and decide that you like them, you can find quite a few stores online that offer Atkins bars at a discount if you order in quantity. Generally you save only a few dollars and have to purchase at least a dozen, so really be sure you like them before you commit to purchasing just to save a few bucks. None of these types of bars will ever taste like a chocolate bar, but they do serve their purpose. If you are really set on following the Atkins plan, these bars can be an asset to your lifestyle.
